push baby’s new single “Cry/TALK ABOUT IT” has been under construction for the past couple of years, but its final iteration is surely its best. Shapeshifting much like the band’s chameleonic approach to pop, there are heavier themes at play here, which is especially evident in Roche’s vocal delivery.
“We knew that we had evolved as artists from that very first pass of the record. However, It always felt like it was missing a darker side so we learnt to let go of any preconceived ideas we had and pulled in our producer friend Max Innes – who was so far removed from any version,” Roche explains.
Aspiring for “a feeling of hysteria and pandemonium” with the production Roche adds. “I wanted to convey what it’s like going through an ‘episode’ with their mental health and stability. This idea of moments of calm and peace and then lots of overbearing and uncomfortable voices.”
The band’s first track of the year, they spent 2020 dropping singles following the release of 2019 debut EP woah. No news on what’s next, but the chaos they channel in “Cry” will hopefully spill over into forthcoming releases too.
