You know what they say: “No one does easy breezy modern soul like the Dutch”. OK, they don’t say that. But they could and they should, particularly considering the latest single to arrive from Feng Suave. Consisting of long-time friends Daniël Schoemaker and Daniël de Jong, Feng Suave have fast established a reputation as purveyors of soul-driven lo-fi pop with their previous singles “I’m Warping Here” and “Venus Flytrap”. And now they’re at it again on “Tomb For Rockets”, which is straight out of the smooth grooves playbook. Mixing ‘70s vibes with analogue recording techniques, the track has a nostalgia-tinged sound that’ll make you yearn for simpler times. It provides the perfect follow-up from last years Warping Youth EP.
“For this release, we decided to record analogue to tape,” say the duo. “This was a first for us and provided a nice change from our previous recording experiences which often involved overdubbing every instrument onto a digital grid, and this provided us an opportunity to capture a raw and dense sound. By avoiding the usual computerised workstation and focussing in and around analogue instruments, it changed a lot for us creatively and allowed us to focus more on capturing a genuine moment rather than recording a flawless take.”
